Pronounced sigh of resignation

I was finally giving this year’s list of artists a cursory look.

“Hey Bryan did you put the 2008 line up on the site yet or am I looking at last year’s?”

“That’s this year.”

“Oh…”

Not a great prologue. Honestly I don’t understand why anyone would want to hear my opinion on most of these bands. But lucky me, lucky you, guess we’re all going to.

There’s a couple of acts I might not mind sitting through, but I also feel a powerfully less-than-thrilled rant forming at the base of my spine.

But not today, grasshopper.

I was just checking in to make sure I remembered my password anyway.

The artists are a little weak this year, and I think the local acts are a little on the early side. I would like to see Lord T pushed back.

Also, what the hell is with the festival web site? There are a lot of pot leaves on there for a festival that doesn’t really encourage recreational drug use.

My main critique really is that Lou Reed gets an hour set. This is a real rocker. He deserves a real show, and, to add insult to injury, he has to be followed by Santana, whom talks to angels. I know talking to angels is really popular in the Mid-South, but can’t we just skip it for MIM. More Lou Reed!
And where are all the acts from Turkey? Duman looks like it is the only one. Surely they could get at least one more act. They probably did, but the Memphis airport staff thought that they were terrorists and disappeared them, forcing the festival organizers to add Muck Sticky or Santana.
Regardless of any qualms I may have, I know that there will be someone that calls this year “the best year ever.” Whether they are drunk or being carried away by security, I feel confident that this will be someone’s favorite. I sincerely hope that this year is “the best year ever.”
